Suspension of Training
The University of Brighton Sports Centre, Eastbourne, is now closed until December 2020.
We have therefore moved back to our online training sessions, details of which have been shared with members.
Red Lion SKC was founded in 1985 by Ivan Birch, Chris Williams and Jane Birch, all of who are still training and teaching at the club. Since its inception the club has been affiliated to the Karate Union of Great Britain, the biggest UK single style karate organization.
Karate is a system of self defence and physical culture originally developed and refined in Okinawa and Japan. The word is formed from the Japanese words Kara (empty) and Te (hand), symbolising that its practitioners, Karateka, are unarmed, but use their hands and feet for blocking and striking. Training is conducted within an environment based on certain Japanese cultural practices.
Dedicated to the teaching of KUGB Shotokan Karate, and epitomising the high technical and moral standards of the organisation, the Club runs classes for people of all ages and physical condition. So whether you want to study Karate for health, for sport or for self defence, you will find the Red Lion SKC will meet all of your needs.
